My work

Over the last twenty years, I have specialised in improving the profitability of under-performing companies. I have developed a methodology based on stakeholder engagement around strategic position and direction, organization structure and capability, requirement for cultural change, process improvement opportunities and accountability for delivering agreed outcomes.

I have established a track record of success in performance improvement:

  • implemented $200 million in cost reductions through a total business process re-engineering project at Optus
  • merged B Digital with Digiplus, resulting in an 80% increase in share price followed by a sale of the company to SP Telemedia
  • identified over $100 million in efficiency benefits at Asciano and set up project management structure to monitor implementation
  • turned Nylex from a $2.5 million a month loss maker to profitability within 12 months, negotiated a sale of the company to Private Equity (which was rejected by the major shareholders)
  • turned PMP Print from a position of rapid decline to profitability in line with prior year.

I have led several acquisition, divestment and capital projects of varying sizes including:

  • the IPO of Optus Communications (Chair of due diligence committee, leader of Australian shareholders working group)
  • the sale of Optus to Singtel (Head of management project team)
  • the recapitalization of Asciano Limited
  • the sale of B Digital to SP Telemedia

I have adapted these skills to apply effectively to my various Non-Executive Director appointments over the last 15 years especially in the design, implementation and monitoring of Enterprise Risk Management systems.

I have provided strategic advice to a range of local and international clients including:

  • Australian Capital Equity (Kerry Stokes) ’Äì Australian Pay TV issues
  • Shanghai Telecom - preparing for the opening of the market to competition
  • Beijing Telecom - organization structure and capability requirements
  • Jiang-Su Telecom- process re-engineering and organization structure
  • VicUrban- telecommunications services for the Melbourne Docklands development
  • Australian Securities and Investment Commission- expert witness on telecommunications business practices.

I have operated in a range of industry sectors although most of my experience is in the Transport and Logistics, Telecommunications and Media and Manufacturing sectors.
